Vance is a Captain of the U.S. Army and a commander of the U.S. Army Rangers. He was charged with defending the American East Coast during World War III.

Early CareerEdit

Little is known of Vance's military exploits. However, it is known that he was deployed during the Invasion of Grenada in 1983, in which he fought against that nation's Marxist regime. At that time, he was serving with Jeremiah Sawyer. Judging from the Colonel's respect for Vance, the young officer proved to be a competent soldier during that campaign. It is unknown when he received the rank of Captain.

Vance was a commander of the U.S. Army Rangers by 1989.

World War IIIEdit

Vance was not deployed to Western Europe following the outbreak of World War III. Instead, he was charged with defending the American East Coast in the event of an attack by the Soviet Union. Four months into the war, the Soviets assaulted New York City with a large force of Spetsnaz commandos, capturing Liberty, Ellis, and Governor's Islands. Vance was charged with recapturing the islands before any harm could come to the city itself.

Vance began the operation with a helicopter assault on Governor's Island, the most heavily-fortified Spetsnaz stronghold. Unfortunately, the assault ended in failure when most of the strike force was shot down, killing many Rangers. Vance instead agreed to an amphibious assault against the three islands, but waited until Colonel Sawyer returned to provide reinforcements.

Vance and Sawyer then began their assault on the islands, starting with Ellis Island. With Lieutenant Parker providing Air support, Vance easily recaptured Ellis and liberated the VIPs being held hostage there. After establishing a base of operations, Vance assaulted Governor's Island, with Parker and Captain Mark Bannon providing support. Vance was successful in establishing a beachhead when the Soviets attempted to counterattack. Despite fierce resistance, Vance and Parker held their ground and eventually prepared for an attack on Fort Jay, an American outpost on the northern beachhead. The attack was ultimately a success and Governor's Island was liberated. Liberty Island was also liberated shortly beforehand by Parker.

Vance reestablished control of the three islands and wiped out the stragglers. He is likely maintaining control around New York City.
